The Final Frontier

August 18th, 2010

Today, I received a package form Amazon.ca. It contained  The Final Frontier by Iron Maiden, as well as two other Iron Maiden albums. I now have all their studio albums. I have to say that it’s a good album, although none of the songs have really stood out and grabbed my attention yet, other than the first one. I didn’t expect it to start quite the way it did, with its very unique drums and rhythm, but it fits the theme of the album quite well. I’m glad I have all the albums now. 8-)

Power Outage

August 4th, 2010

There was a power outage today at 2:39PM. I was getting a snack in the kitchen, just before taking a nap, when I heard everything shutting down around me. According to my APC UPS, the power outage lasted for 1 hour and 16 minutes. There were some mild thundershowers for the past couple of days, but I don’t think those were responsible for it. Actually, I wished that they would be a little stronger, because they can be interesting.

Before the power outage, I received a package that contained 4 Iron Maiden CDs. Amazon.ca put them all on sale because the new album will be released in a couple of weeks. So I decided to take advantage of that. I’ll have all the Iron Maiden studio albums soon.

Below the Belt

May 12th, 2010

Today, I received the latest Danko Jones album; Below the Belt. It’s great, as usual. They seem to have gone back a little with a more aggressive sound more like some earlier albums, like We Sweat Blood, and added more guitar. :whistling:

I also went downtown to the music shop this afternoon, and despite seeing lots of tempting Gibson SGs, I kept my hands away from them… but looked at them for a while in admiration. So, keeping my promise I made to someone,  I ended up just buying some guitar strings and a Hohner Blues Harp. I was always fascinated by the harmonica, but never dared get one until today. They’re not expensive at all, so I decided to give it a try. So it gives me something new and interesting, and at the same time my new savings account will be safe.  ;)

More CDs

February 19th, 2010

I received a couple more CDs from Amazon.ca today. I had also ordered a couple of Saxon albums that have been recently re-released, but they seem to have been delayed for some reason.

Here’s what I got:

  • Piece of Mind – Iron Maiden
  • Seventh Son of a Seventh Son – Iron Maiden

Other than that, everything has been pretty much the same as usual. I did have a bit more trouble with Colossus, but it seems to work fine if I turn off the monitor while it boots up for some reason.

I got a couple of Scythe Bay Rafters to mount the SSD drive. They hold two SSD drives and one 3.5″ hard  drive in a 5″ bay. I won’t be using them for anything other than SSDs, though. Now I’ll have the capacity to add one more SSD to Colossus, and 2 more in another later.

  • Powerslave – Iron Maiden
  • Somewhere in Time – Iron Maiden
  • The Number of the Beast- Iron Maiden

DVDs:

  • Backdraft
  • Bulletproof
  • Cop Land
  • In the Line of Fire

Pin Points and Gin Joints

December 11th, 2009

I received another package from Amazon.ca today. I had preordered Pin Points and Gin Joints by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones the other day, I think it was even before I ordered Public Enemies, but it took a day longer for some reason. I decided to get a couple more albums by The Real McKenzies since they were in stock, and that’s something that rarely happens.

CDs:

  • Pin Points and Gin Joints – The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
  • G N’ R Lies – Guns N’ Roses
  • Loch’d & Loaded – The Real McKenzies
  • Pissed Tae Th’ Gills: A Drunken Live Tribute to Robbie Burns – The Real McKenzies

As is often a problem with new albums, Windows Media Player didn’t have the album information for Pin Points and Gin Joints. I don’t understand why they cannot get that information ready by the album release date –  the song names are no secret. They are often announced well in advance, as is the album art.

Also, the album info for Pissed Tae Th’ Gills was incomplete by one track and that pushed a few tracks off into the wrong positions, plus one song was quite obviously misspelled. However, I looked out of curiosity and found that the track information for the DVD version of it was fine.

Good as Dead

October 21st, 2009

I received Grady’s new album, Good as Dead, today from Amazon.ca. I have to say that it’s quite good, but my favorite Grady album will probably remain “A Cup of Cold Poison”.

New CDs

October 10th, 2009

I received some new CDs yesterday from Amazon.ca.

CDs:

  • Vancouver – Matthew Good
  • Born on the First of July – Chixdiggit!
  • Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid – Collective Soul

Other than that, everything has pretty much been the same as usual, although I became depressed at times, and more so than usual.

Gran Torino

September 15th, 2009

I received another package today from Amazon.ca.

CDs:

  • 10,000 Shots – The Real McKenzies
  • Brave New World – Iron Maiden

DVDs:

  • Gran Torino
  • Miller’s Crossing

I didn’t feel too well this weekend. It was probably because my neck was pretty bad last week.  Some of my symptoms seemed to be related to the Vagus Nerve as in the past, but I also had some wonderful cold symptoms at the same time…. I also became depressed, and I had a really hard time sleeping. I actually got up at about 8 or 9 AM on Saturday and Sunday, and then it was impossible to get back to sleep, so I was forced to get up. I didn’t get much sleep, and I had to make it up later in the evening with naps.

Many Packages

September 8th, 2009

Wow, today was interesting. I got up quite early, because I had fallen asleep last night during a nap — which turned out to last nearly five hours. So I was quite well rested today, and ready for it all.

It’s quite a bit of  a coincidence that everything arrived today, even though it was in part due to the Labor Day long weekend. I received about five packages in total in three separate deliveries. My father was not really impressed by that.

From Amazon:

  • CD: Pay Attention – The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (out of print!)
  • DVDs:
    • Casino
    • Carlito’s Way: Crime Saga Collection
    • Pulp Fiction
    • Showtime
    • Seinfeld: The Complete Series

So that’s the first of three out of print CDs I ordered. Two more to go. I got them from the Amazon.ca Marketplace, which I only did once before. It can be hard to get a new item at a reasonable price when it’s out of print, but I managed to get one of each of the CDs I wanted. So far so good…

From Dell:

  • IOGEAR MiniView 2-port KVM
  • APC RBC-32 replacement battery

I was waiting the stuff from Dell since about the time I ordered the hard drives. There was a delay, but it wasn’t too bad.  I got the KVM on sale, probably the reason for the delay. It’s not bad for the price. I don’t use those machines much from down there anyway, but it seems to be doing its job nicely.

There was no rush for the UPS battery, since the old one was still okay. I will put the old battery in an older UPS that will power Electrocuter1 and the Gigabit switch in the basement, since those are not essential and the battery still has a bit of life left. I actually have a few models of UPS that use the same battery type, so that’s convenient.
