Yesterday, I received a box of stuff from Amazon.ca. I got up pretty late, so I didn’t post about it. My energy has been terrible for the past few days. And to make that even worse, I had insomnia, too!
Anyway, I got some more Iron Maiden CDs and a few movies. Here’s what I got:
CDs:
- Iron Maiden – Iron Maiden
- Powerslave – Iron Maiden
- Somewhere in Time – Iron Maiden
- The Number of the Beast- Iron Maiden
DVDs:
- Backdraft
- Bulletproof
- Cop Land
- In the Line of Fire
- Shooter
- True Crime

Today, I received a package from Amazon.ca. It made it despite the snow storm. Well, the storm is not really that bad, but people are in panic. It’s as if they forgot what snow is, and the fact that last winter was far worse.
I got the 2 disc versions of both of these items:
DVDs:
- Public Enemies
- Iron Maiden: Flight 666

October 1st, 2009
Things have been quieter this week. There was much less Spam this week. So that’s good, but it does, however, leave me without any scams to make fun of.
I worked a bit on my stories, finally making some progress, and I also played guitar and bass, as usual.
One strange thing happened. ICQ disconnected everyone, including me, at exactly midnight today, October 1st. Literally, just as the clock struck twelve. Very strange. The outage only lasted a few minutes, though.
I got a couple of new DVDs:
- The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
- The French Connection

I received another package today from Amazon.ca.
CDs:
- 10,000 Shots – The Real McKenzies
- Brave New World – Iron Maiden
DVDs:
- Gran Torino
- Miller’s Crossing
I didn’t feel too well this weekend. It was probably because my neck was pretty bad last week. Some of my symptoms seemed to be related to the Vagus Nerve as in the past, but I also had some wonderful cold symptoms at the same time…. I also became depressed, and I had a really hard time sleeping. I actually got up at about 8 or 9 AM on Saturday and Sunday, and then it was impossible to get back to sleep, so I was forced to get up. I didn’t get much sleep, and I had to make it up later in the evening with naps.

Wow, today was interesting. I got up quite early, because I had fallen asleep last night during a nap — which turned out to last nearly five hours. So I was quite well rested today, and ready for it all.
It’s quite a bit of a coincidence that everything arrived today, even though it was in part due to the Labor Day long weekend. I received about five packages in total in three separate deliveries. My father was not really impressed by that.
From Amazon:
- CD: Pay Attention – The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (out of print!)
- DVDs:
- Casino
- Carlito’s Way: Crime Saga Collection
- Pulp Fiction
- Showtime
- Seinfeld: The Complete Series
So that’s the first of three out of print CDs I ordered. Two more to go. I got them from the Amazon.ca Marketplace, which I only did once before. It can be hard to get a new item at a reasonable price when it’s out of print, but I managed to get one of each of the CDs I wanted. So far so good…
From Dell:
- IOGEAR MiniView 2-port KVM
- APC RBC-32 replacement battery
I was waiting the stuff from Dell since about the time I ordered the hard drives. There was a delay, but it wasn’t too bad. I got the KVM on sale, probably the reason for the delay. It’s not bad for the price. I don’t use those machines much from down there anyway, but it seems to be doing its job nicely.
There was no rush for the UPS battery, since the old one was still okay. I will put the old battery in an older UPS that will power Electrocuter1 and the Gigabit switch in the basement, since those are not essential and the battery still has a bit of life left. I actually have a few models of UPS that use the same battery type, so that’s convenient.

Something a little different and amusing. This is a true story.
Once upon a time, Eric’s parents watched a movie called Jackie Brown on TV. They enjoyed it, but the evil cable company lost their feed to several television stations right in the middle of the movie, leaving them intrigued about how the movie ended. A few days later, while shopping, they saw the DVD on sale. They bought it to be able to watch the rest of the movie. Once they started watching the movie near where the movie was cut off, they realized that something was different… they went back to some different parts towards the beginning of the movie and realized that the version they saw on TV was censored. They liked the censored version better.
Eric then found the DVD with his DVD collection later that night… The End

I finally edited my video of the flicker eating the patio ants. I had meant to do this since last year, but I didn’t really have any way to post it to the site. So, I just edited it a bit and posted it on Flickr.

It’s an interesting video.
Also, I got another DVD yesterday, Hostage. Another good deal at HMV.

Today, I received another package from Amazon.ca. I got some movies because I was depressed lately, and that can often cause me to want to buy things…
A few of these are sets of a few movies in the same box, so basically there are 13 movies in total. Here’s what I got:
- Midnight Run
- National Security
- Crocodile Dundee Triple Feature
- Van Helsing
- Arnold Schwarzenegger Comedy Favorites Collection:
- Twins
- Kindergarten Cop
- Junior
- Clint Eastwood Comedy: 4 Film Favorites:
- Space Cowboys
- Honkytonk Man
- Every Which Way But Loose
- Any Which Way You Can
Also, my cold is finally getting better now. So I’ll be getting to work on some projects that I’ve been thinking about this week. I did manage to work on one when my symptoms were better the other day. I created a PHP name generator for my stories, and it’s quite interesting to use…
But the names it generates are quite good, actually. I was very clever in my acquisition of the names for its database…

I went shopping today. I needed to get a new mouse, because I dropped one and broke the left mouse button. I was using an old mouse to temporarily replace it, but it wore out and I couldn’t left click anymore with that one either
So, I got a Logitech LX 8 cordless mouse, which as luck has it, works perfectly with my current receiver from the keyboard / mouse combo that the mouse I dropped was from. I also looked at the laptops, but I didn’t see any that I liked. There were almost no laptops with good graphics chips in them. Sure, the Intel chipset has okay graphics for most tasks, but I want something better. My old 16” Toshiba still works, but I need to get a new one, it’s too slow.
I also bought three DVDs:
- Bram Stoker’s Dracula
- The Matrix Revolutions
- Righteous Kill

I got End of Days and Training Day on Friday. I would have watched them both by now had I not been so tired because of the cold. I actually slept normal hours on Sunday.
I watched End of Days this morning.
This movie gets some bad reviews, but it’s actually not bad at all. The main problem is the director and his vision for certain scenes. The camera locations and composition just didn’t look right in some scenes. Just like when playing a musical instrument, you can play a wrong note and just be off by one note, it’s close, but it just won’t sound right. Some scenes felt like this. Other than that, it’s a good movie. The story is good, the acting is good, it just could have been great if they had taken advantage of its true potential with better direction.
