I went to the model train shop yesterday, and I also went to see the real thing afterward. It went pretty well. The weather was good, although it was just 21C / 71F.
I saw a train on the river bridge after I got out of the shop, and luckily, I arrived at the station before it did.
I saw more trains than last time, and actually, this one showed up just as I got into the car to head home, so I jumped out of the car to catch it.
Not only that, but the locomotives I saw are all pretty rare. StL&H is pretty much nonexistent now, for example. I doubt there are more than a couple of those locomotives around anymore, so I was lucky for sure.
After I got home, I unboxed my new freight car models, and then worked on finishing up the rail yard. I only have one track left to install, and then all the track on my layout will be finished. I will need to do some more soldering, though, since I only found one pair of terminal joiners at the shop.

I went out to the model train shop yesterday. I bought some stuff for my model train layout, and then went to see the real thing. It was a bit cloudy, but the weather was perfect otherwise. Things were not quite as busy as they have been in the past, but you never know how it will be. I saw a couple of trains, plus a little switching in the yard.
It takes about an hour to get there, and then an hour to return, so my muscles didn’t feel so good. I also had a bit of a sore throat, which turns out to be caused by a cold. I’m not feeling so well today, unfortunately, so my model trains will have to wait. But I’m still happy that I managed to go watch trains. I didn’t go at all last year. The weather was so bad, and I was not well enough to go on the only day when the weather was good enough. So I’ll try to make up for it this year by going another couple of times maybe.

I finally edited my video of the flicker eating the patio ants. I had meant to do this since last year, but I didn’t really have any way to post it to the site. So, I just edited it a bit and posted it on Flickr.

It’s an interesting video.
Also, I got another DVD yesterday, Hostage. Another good deal at HMV.

A few more. The first one is of the excavators digging the hole for the water pipes.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that CP seems to have installed automatic engine shutdown modules in some of their locomotives, as I observed a few of them shutting down to save fuel.
There's a sound a bit like a telephone ringing that goes off just before the engine shuts down or starts up. That was really interesting to see.

I wasn't feeling as bad today, so just about at the last minute, I decided this afternoon to go see something during the Doors Open Ottawa event, like the train station… which I did.
My father took me to the "new" Ottawa Train Station, built in 1966.
We arrived a bit late in the day since it ended at 4PM, but we got there just around 3:40PM, so there was still time to get a guided tour, the very last one of the day, just for the two of us.
The gentleman was very nice, and did a great job explaining everything. It made me forget about how bad the past week had gone for me.
We also got to see a the Ottawa Valley N-Trak model train layout that was on display there as well, with a full crew running trains. I wanted to, but I didn't take any photos of that, since I have trouble with my own HO scale model trains sometimes, and they aren't even moving.
I did take photos of the real thing, however…

Not bad at all. I hadn't seen trains in person for a long time, and it felt good to be back next to the tracks, breathing in the yummy diesel exhaust fumes.

It's snowing again right now. It's getting crazy now. When will it end?
I looked outside at 2AM, and saw that it looked pretty bright out there. So I decided to take a few photos. I managed to do a 15 second hand held exposure that looks pretty good, though obviously a bit shaky, but not bad considering the length of it.

I also seem to have caught another cold. But it doesn't look like this one will be too bad, thankfully.

Today, I went to the hobby shop. It felt pretty strange walking in there, probably since I hadn't been there for a few years. Some things changed, but not too many.
I ended up getting some flex track, roadbed, track nails, wire, an Athearn Ready To Roll 56' Gunderson well car (TTX), 2 40' intermodal containers, and (just for the hell of it) a Ford F-150 pickup truck

I have to take naps pretty much every night, and I'm still very tired afterwards, but I rarely have nausea now, thankfully.
I don't know if I keep catching colds, or if it's the same strange virus that is lasting far too long, but I'm having some fun with this right now… it's not terribly bad, but bad enough to be affecting me

I took a photo of the Plasma TV:

To go along with this, I decided to remake the Now Playing DVD display image. It's about time. I used my new Wacom Bamboo tablet to draw the curtains and such.
I did a pretty good job, surprisingly. I was afraid I'd have to steal some image(s) of theater curtains
So, here it is:

Looks much better, doesn't it?
