I had a cold again this week, so I didn’t get to work on my model train layout. Since I feel better now, I decided to play with some PHP scripts tonight and see what I could come up with. This is my latest project:

The result was quite good, I managed to convert the old hard drive status script into an APC UPS status script. It will now be much easier to keep track of all of them during a power outage, conserve battery power, and arrange any necessary shutdowns. I can only keep track of three of them at the moment, since Apcupsd doesn’t allow monitoring more than one UPS at a time for now, and it doesn’t work with 64bit versions of Windows, either. But it’s okay, those two units that it doesn’t work with only power my network switches anyway.

This all started yesterday. I suppose it was caused by yet another virus. I was very tired, and I slept almost all day and all night. Once I got up at around midnight, I ate what would have been my dinner the night before. A couple of hours later, I was still hungry, so I ate a can of soup. At about 5AM, I started to become very nauseous. So much so that I decided to take some medication. It didn’t help. So, I ended up vomiting. The scary part was that there was some blood in there.
So, I woke up my parents, and then we decided to wait and see what would happen. At about 7:30AM, it happened again. There was some blood again, but a bit less this time. It was time to go have it checked. By the time I was ready to go, the clinic had opened, so my father took me there instead of the hospital.
Things went pretty well at the clinic. It took only about an hour to get examined by a doctor. It turns out that I probably ruptured a blood vessel in my stomach while vomiting. Who knew that such a thing could happen?
I should be okay now, but that was quite a scare. I’m not supposed to eat until tomorrow, and then I’m supposed to start eating soft foods, like soup, rice, etc.
Not a good way to start the year…

I just upgraded to WordPress 2.9, and everything went smoothly, as usual.
Not much else happened this past week other than a bit more snow and some quite cold temperatures for a few days. I had some problems with my lower back, some pretty bad pain at times, and I was really tired, too. That can be a bad combination, because I get back pain if I sleep too much, but I’m too tired if I don’t sleep enough. It becomes a sort of vicious circle. It’s better now, though.

No, I don’t have it, at least not that I know of. It’s possible that I have caught it sometime this year, but it’s just like a regular flu, so it’s hard to tell. I’m really surprised by the panic and hysteria surrounding this virus. It’s no worse than a regular flu — it’s just a new strain, so less people are immune to it. The real danger is for those who never have the flu, since they don’t have any sort of immunity to flu viruses, and they don’t know how to deal with them. I don’t have to worry about that.
It’s really amazing how people are waiting in line for hours for the vaccine. The media really did a good job on them. Of course, the pharmaceutical companies are big time advertisers for them, so that’s not really surprising…
Now, instead of spending hours in line waiting for the vaccine, people should be doing their research and reading the truth about the vaccine and the swine flu itself. The vaccine doesn’t work. No flu vaccine ever has been effective against any strain of flu, and they’ve been making them for decades. Not to mention that contents of the vaccines are more likely to cause harm than good. The irony is that people are afraid of the mercury in compact fluorescent light bulbs, for example, but they get mercury injected right into their bodies with these vaccines.

Well, the new server is working out well. I decided to clean up a lot of the old site’s pages, by deleting them, so the now playing section will give out 404 errors for now. I’m working on a replacement for it at the moment, and it should be finished in a few days. I got tired of all the bots attacking it, and it doesn’t follow the new site design anyway. The new now playing section will be a WordPress plugin, so that will look better. Yep, I figured out how to make one of those myself. And it will be just like a regular numbered WordPress page, so it should keep the attack bots away, because they usually are looking for the words “playing” or “nowplaying” in the file name.
WordPress had another update this week. I was starting to wonder when the next one would be, since it had been longer than usual. And now all but one of the spam comments have been in Russian since the server switch, and there have been plenty of them this week. Strange.
Other than that, things have been a bit difficult for me this week in terms of my health. I was very depressed on Tuesday, then I really didn’t feel well on Wednesday (nausea), and I slept through most of Thursday. And all this on top of having cold symptoms almost every day. Yep, I still catch a cold pretty much every week.

I received another package today from Amazon.ca.
CDs:
- 10,000 Shots – The Real McKenzies
- Brave New World – Iron Maiden
DVDs:
- Gran Torino
- Miller’s Crossing
I didn’t feel too well this weekend. It was probably because my neck was pretty bad last week. Some of my symptoms seemed to be related to the Vagus Nerve as in the past, but I also had some wonderful cold symptoms at the same time…. I also became depressed, and I had a really hard time sleeping. I actually got up at about 8 or 9 AM on Saturday and Sunday, and then it was impossible to get back to sleep, so I was forced to get up. I didn’t get much sleep, and I had to make it up later in the evening with naps.

I caught another cold. It seems that the insomnia I had on Friday was probably related to this virus. Not fun…
The weather has been hot for the past few days, but also very humid, making it feel even hotter. Today’s temperatures got up to 32C /90F, but the “Humidex” adds about ten degrees to that. It has been sunny for the past few days as well. This would have to be the “best” weather so far this summer, and now it’s probably going to go back to raining for another month.
Since I was feeling like buying stuff, I ordered some computer hardware today. I will be posting about that when it arrives. This is not to build another machine, though, so don’t worry.

Well, I didn’t get to go watch trains afterall. I had severe insomnia, and I didn’t even sleep one minute by the time I was to get up, so it was just impossible to go anywhere without sleep.

I caught another cold this weekend. It was a bit bad, especially at first. Runny nose like a faucet again, and sneezing like a machine gun.
And I had such bad insomnia, too. I don’t know what’s going on with that. It usually doesn’t last so long. I did sleep better today, though.
I decided to let my hair grow long, despite protests by my mother… actually that makes it more fun.
I always thought about doing this, but at a certain point I always changed my mind, since my hair became a bit too weird-looking during its transition to a longer style, probably because it’s wavy. But this time, I kept going…
The weather is very nice right now, so I’m hoping that I can get out to watch some trains tomorrow. I haven’t done that so far this summer, because it rained almost all the time. Usually I would have gone in July, but as I said, the weather prevented this.

Well, another birthday has passed. I’m now 28 years old.
The day went fairly well, although I was quite depressed at times. I wasn’t expecting the depression to be so bad, but there’s nothing that I can do about that. It did make me feel better to receive many birthday wishes from my online friends, and even strangers, but I’m still here alone in the end.
I always wonder what my life would be like had I not become so ill many years ago. Maybe I still wouldn’t have been happy with that life, I don’t know. My depression would have followed me no matter what path I took, much like the personal rain cloud from cartoons. I did have quite a bit of bad luck in my life, but things are getting better now, although not as quickly as I would like.
I got up at 3 PM today, which was not too bad. I waited a while to open my presents. I didn’t want to do it while I was very depressed, because I didn’t want my parents to think that I was unhappy about what they gave me. They always do the best they can for me, and the presets were just fine. They gave me some money, DVDs, a game, pajamas, and an LED flashlight.
